Since there is no airport in Gyeongju, you need to transfer to other forms of transportation from its nearest airports in Busan (Gimhae International Airport), Ulsan and Pohang.

From Airport to Gyeongju
Airport Limousine Buses run from Gimhae, Ulsan and Pohang airports to the city of Gyeongju. A journey normally takes about one hour. The one-way fare is 9,000 won from Gimhae Airport, 4,500 won from both Ulsan and Pohang Airport.


The Seoul-Pohang and Seoul-Ulsan services from Seoul Railroad Station will bring you to Gyeongju. Saemaeulho trains operate 4 times a day and Mugunghwaho once a day between 07:30 and 21:00. The basic one-way fare is 27,800 won for Saemaeulho and 19,100 won for Mugunghwaho.

Seoul-Gyeongju
There are 25 express services at Seoul's Gangnam Express Bus Terminal, departing every 30 or 40 minutes from 06:00 to 18:30. The trip normally takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes. The one-way fare is 14,600 won for a "general" bus, 21,700 won for a "deluxe" bus and 23,800 won for a night bus. From the East Seoul Bus Terminal, the Seoul-Gyeongju services are provided 11 times a day every hour from 07:00 to 19:00. This trip takes approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes, and the fare is 16,000 won.

Busan-Gyeongju
Busan Express Bus Terminal operates 12 services a day between 08:00 and 22:30. A journey normally takes about one hour and 10 minutes, and the one-way fare is 3,300 won for a general bus and 4,900 won for a deluxe bus. There are also buses from Busan East Intercity Bus Terminal giving as many as 50 services a day between 05:30 and 21:00. The trip takes one hour and 10 minutes and the one-way fare is 3,300 won.

When you drive your own car, take Gyeongbu Expressway that leads you to Gyeongju Interchange. It normally takes about 4 hours and 30 minutes. You might want to take the more scenic National Highway No.4 that connects Seoul with Daegu and Gyeongju.


Buses make an important transportation system in Gyeongju. There are currently 50 routes running to the main attractions in the city and the suburbs including Bulguksa Temple and Bomun Lake Resort. Most buses stop at Gyeongju Bus Terminal and Gyeongju Railroad Station, linking passengers arriving there to most tourist attractions within and around the city. General city buses cost 700 won for adults, 550 won for students and 350 won for under 12. Jwaseok ("seating only") buses cost 1,050 won for adults, 900 won for students and 500 won for under 12. An additional charge is added when going out to the suburbs.


While it is easy to walk around Gyeongju because tourist attractions are close with each other, taxis are the fastest way moving around the city and a convenient form of transportation for tourists who visit Gyeongju for the first time. The basic fare is 1,300 won and increases by 100 won increments according to the driving distance and time. Also, there are many private taxis offering "taxi tours" which guide you through main tourist attractions in Gyeongju. The price ranges from 50,000 to 150,000 won for one day depending on the courses and journey time. Entrance fees are not included. Some taxi drivers are good photographers, and ready to provide picture-taking service.
